Lawmakers Listen to the Collective Wisdom of Christian Seniors by Passing the Partial Birth Abortion Ban into the Law of the Land, with the President's Signature.

By Martin Waugh, D.O., Medical advisor to Christian Seniors Association.

How priceless is the wisdom that hindsight often can provide! Many of our Christian Senior Members have been willing to let their thoughts and experience combine into a collective voice on Capitol Hill by joining the Christian Seniors Association. One of the things that our society sorely needs is the wisdom of knowing where our society has been, and specifically the experiences of women who have chosen to have their babies and given them up for adoption, versus those who have had an abortion.

Many of our Seniors know women who have faced this "choice to kill" that our Supreme court forced upon women by the 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision, which overturned any State law which forbade abortion. These senior citizens have prayed for, and ached with the consequences of abortion, which has been visited upon their daughters and loved ones by that fateful Supreme Court decision.

In our current society we hear pro-abortion advocates who remind a woman that if she has a baby out of wedlock, she is much more likely to face a life of poverty. Many seniors know that a poverty of the soul is far worse than the poverty of finances, which many lived through, personally, during the Great Depression. They have seen both types of poverty visited upon their families, so their experiences are both poignant and instructive.

One type of poverty, namely the financial, often brought families closer together, and inspired great sacrifices out of love for each other. The other type of poverty, that of the soul, can drive family members further apart. This is the type of poverty which often occurs when women reject the advice of their grandmothers, grandfathers, mothers and fathers and proceed with the killing of their unborn through abortion. Seniors have grieved with their children and grandchildren as they watch their potential grandchildren ripped from their future. They watch their loved ones struggle with depressions, guilt, spiritual estrangement from God, and grief. They also face their own grief over how their families could have been enriched by another miraculous life being added to their families. Any time a young life, at any age, at any stage is cut short, it is a profound loss to the entire family. No one knows this better than the senior members of that family.

We at Christian Seniors hear of these stories, and have made it one of our highest priorities to share those experiences with lawmakers, who seem to be getting an understanding of this tragedy. The recent signing into law of a bill that blocks the most brutal types of abortions, the killing and dismemberment of children just inches from live birth, is evidence that lawmakers are listening to their own consciences and the experiences of their constituents.

Thank you to all who have joined Christian Seniors Association, and who have shared your painful family experiences to help prevent these tragedies from occurring to other families. God Bless you who want to minister out of your own pain, helping to bring healing to the families of others. Thank God that AARP, in support of all forms of abortion, does not speak for all seniors.

The following is a list of Senators and Congressmen who made the law to ban partial birth abortion possible, and they should be thanked by their constituents for their courageous support of the first law in 30 years to protect our unborn. If your Senator or Congressman is on this list, they voted yes and we hope that you send them a note of thanks for voting both their and your conscience. If they are not on this list, then your Senator or Congressman voted to continue to kill the unborn, and we hope that you let them know how you feel about them not representing you with their votes here in Washington. All elected officials know what a powerful voting bloc you represent so your individual feedback is important. Christian Seniors Association is grateful for you raising your voice for those who have not yet learned how to speak.
